30-hour Reflections
(02/27/2004)
How has not eating for 30 hours made you feel?
-
It made me think about some kids (who) feel this way
everyday.
-
It gave me a better understanding of what poverty-stricken
hungry people don’t have.
-
To be appreciative of that food I have to eat. I don’t have
to eat 24/7.
-
Sometimes when I feel hungry, I am really
just thirsty.
-
I think it gave me a real feel about hungry and starving
children.
-
It made me think about how grateful I am.
-
Made me think about how it is to live for more than 1 day
with no food.
-
Makes you think about how good we have it!
-
It made me realize that other people in the world feel even
worse than I do (in the stomach) right now.
-
It made me feel like a person with no food would feel.
-
It made me feel empty and tired
-
When I think of how kids feel and that they deal with this
all the time, it makes me feel sad.
Do you feel that you take anything for granted in your
own life?
-
Yes!
-
I think I never before really thought about how good I have
it.
-
We take our food (24 hour stores) for granted, cars,
technology (refrigerators), and education (going to school) all for
granted.
-
I think that everybody does.
-
I feel I’ve taken a lot of things for granted!
What made the most impact on you this weekend?
-
To feel like you were starving; Not eating for 30 hours;
Having no food.
-
Serving breakfast at the Salvation Army
-
Doing the projects out in the community
-
I think it was seeing and feeling all kinds of hunger around
the world and going to the food bank.
-
Noticing how bad people really have it, how they actually
live their life. I never knew how bad it really was until now.
-
Hearing about how many people die everyday from hungriness.
Has your awareness of world hunger changed at all? If
so, How?
-
Yes, because now I know what it feels like going without
food for a very long time.
-
Yes, I have a better idea what being hungry feels like.
-
Yes, I didn’t realize how may people went without food for
long periods of time.
-
Yes, I never thought it was this bad and I never thought
about how hungry people feel.
-
Yes, definitely makes you think twice before you think you
really need to eat, when you’re not even hungry and you
don’t think about people who really are starving and can’t buy food
-
Yes, because I didn’t know that so many people die of
hunger.
-
Yes, because I kind of know how they feel.
-
Yes, because people are starving now.
-
Not really, I’ve always known it was around, but now I know
how it feels.
