Building Program Update

*************************************

Luncheon Workshop, January 7, 2001--to be rescheduled

*************************************

The Building Committee has competed an number of consultations with the architects. The priorities articulated by the congregation during the Master Planning Workshops have been translated into conceptual drawings. These drawings have been used to explore a number of interesting and exciting ways to realize the hopes and dreams which you gave voice to. The architects, David Schultz and Amanda Torgerson, have done a very good job of reconciling the realities of our existing building, our site, our resources and our desires. We have made sufficient progress to warrant inviting the congregation to a short workshop in which the choices before us can be presented visually and discussed. Your input into this process will help us select a direction for more fulsome development.

To this end we have scheduled an after church luncheon for January 7, 2001. The format will be very simple. We will gather in the fellowship hall for coffee and refreshments and then participate in a 45 minute program followed by a luncheon and informal discussion. The pre-luncheon program will consist of an overview of the approaches which seem most promising and an opportunity to discuss these approaches with the architects and the Building Committee.

There will be more publicity about this event in the weeks immediately preceding it.

HEAD USHERS STILL NEEDED:

The church is in need of several persons to serve as head ushers for the coming year. Please contact Marlys Martin if you are interested (282-3740).

THE GIVING TREE:

Receive the gift of love by giving a present to a deserving child. Our giving tree will be up on November 26. Please bring your unwrapped presents to the church by December 10. These gifts will be taken to the Holiday Clearing Bureau.

MITTEN BASKET:

The Presbyterian Women's afternoon circle is sponsoring a mitten drive for children attending West Fargo Schools who are in need of warm mittens. Please drop your mittens in the basket located in the narthex; we hope to have the basket filled by December 2.

REMEMBER OUR HOMEBOUND

Donna Rosenkranz just celebrated a birthday on November 17. Donna grew up by Tintah, MN on a farm. The farm home was blown away in a tornado a few years ago. She has 4 boys and 2 girls and her girls share the same birthday 5 years apart! She did housekeeping at St. John's Hospital for 10 years. She misses the afternoon circle meetings and would love to have everyone come and visit her in Room 320 at Rosewood at Broadway.

Florence Brownlee just celebrated a big milestone! Her 100th birthday was in June. She remembers babysitting for families for .15¢ a day. When her husband, Bill, asked her father for her hand in marriage it took her dad a month to answer yes. They raised 3 girls and 1 boy. She recently enjoyed a visit to our church in September and loved seeing all her old friends. She has lived in Elim for 15 years and enjoys having people stop by to see her.

Everett Paulsen is 90 years young, having celebrated his birthday September 21. He and his wife Goodie joined the church in 1945. They have traveled to Norway, Sweden and Mexico. They have 1 boy and 3 girls who all are very musical. One of their grandchildren is now in Russia doing missionary work. Everett now lives at Manor Care in Fargo and likes to read. He would appreciate having everyone from church stop by to visit him. He can tell you lots of history about this area.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARDS - JANUARY 7, 2001

The Christian Education Staff will be presenting perfect attendance awards during worship on Sunday January 7th 2001.

YOUTH NEWS:

Starting in December, both youth groups will begin meeting at the same time. This will be from 7-9 pm on Sunday evenings. Hopefully this will be more convenient and efficient for families.

There will be a sleep over on December 8th. Permission slips are due in on Wednesday, December 6th. This way I will know how much food to buy! Be prepared to have lots of fun (food, games, movies, music, and cool people).

There will be no youth group over Christmas vacation.

Calendars are still on sale for $6 apiece.

Parents interested in helping with youth outings in the new-year, please contact me so that we can get plans under way for a ski trip and other events. Thanks.

Have a wonderful holiday season. God bless.

Jessica

COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, WEST FARGO NORTH DAKOTA

STEWARDSHIP GOALS FOR 2001

With help of God we (I) intend to support this congregation financially in the year to come. We (I) understand that this is a personal commitment not a binding contract. God may prosper us (me) in a manner that will allow us (me) to exceed this commitment or circumstance may cause us (me) to fall short of it. The future is in the hand of God.

Trusting God we (I) plan to give:

(circle one)
To the Local Mission and Program of the Church: $____________ each week/month/year

To the Capital Improvements Fund $____________ each week/month/year

To the Permanent Endowment Fund $____________ each week/month/year

To the Mission of the PCUSA $____________ each week/month/year

PER CAPITA OFFERING The denomination assesses each congregation a charge of $19.42 for each person on the Church's "Roll of Active Members". This is the way the larger church funds the expense of its administrative operations. Without it our denomination can not function. To calculate the appropriate Per Capita amount for your household multiply the number of active members by $19.70. Confirmed children are active members.

NUMBER OF ACTIVE MEMBERS _______x $19.70 = ___________

NAME(S) _________________________________________________

PLEASE PLACE THIS PLEDGE CARD IN AN ENVELOPE OR FOLD IT IN HALF AND EITHER RETURN IT TO THE CHURCH OFFICE OR PLACE IT THE OFFERING PLATE ON SUNDAY

We give not according to what we do not have but in proportion to the way God blesses us each week.
