COMMUNION VISITATION PROGRAM BEGINS !

A recent change to the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (The Book of Order) expands the ministry of church officers.

The new section reads as follows:

“The Ordering of Christian Worship”          W-3.3616-e(1-3):

e. The serving of the elements may be extended, by two or more ordained officers of the church, to those isolated from the community’s worship, provided:

(1)the elements are served following worship on the same calendar day, as a direct extension of the serving of the gathered congregation, to church members who have accepted the church's invitation to receive the Sacrament;

(2)care is taken in the serving to ensure that the unity of Word and Sacrament is maintained, by the reading of Scripture and the offering of prayers; and

(3)those serving have been instructed by the session or authorized governing body in the theological and pastoral foundations of this ministry and in the liturgical resources for it (W-6.3011).

The Session has taken steps to make use of this new possibility for our ministry to our members who are isolated from the community’s worship.  A group of Elders and Deacons have been trained for this work and will begin their ministry this month. We have added a component to our liturgy for communion that will commission the officers serving in this way to go forth in the name of God and to bring the elements from the communion table to the homes of our sick and shut in.  Those participating in this ministry are very excited about reaching out in this way.

EVERETT PAULSEN WILL BE 90 YEARS OLD !

In celebration of Everett’s 90th birthday there will be an open house at the home of Everett and Goodie Paulsen, Sunday Evening, September 17th from 7 – 9 p.m.  Their home is located at 1444 River Street, West Fargo, ND.

YOUTH NOTES:

Hope everyone is adjusting well to the start of another school year.  With the start of school comes the start of another year of church youth programming.  This year, grades 7-12 will have the opportunity to meet weekly to socialize, learn, goof off, and more.  Starting on Sunday, October 1st, 7th and 8th graders will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church and 9th through 12th graders will meet from 7 to 9 p.m.  These times will be the same every Sunday but with different talks, activities, and events planned for each week.  There will be snacks and everyone is welcome to bring a friend.

A youth fundraiser will be held on September 16th in the church parking lot to help fund upcoming events and activities for the year.  If you would like to help, please contact Jessica at 299-3426 or leave a message in the office.  Also, your support is greatly appreciated and we hope you will stop by to say hello.

*Parents who are interested in helping with fundraisers, weekly youth meetings, or occasionally helping with activities are encouraged to contact Jessica.  With everyone’s help, this year will be both fun and successful!
