“SUMMER 2000 EDITION”

The Master Building Plan Process is Moving Ahead!

In March the session approved a resolution to begin a fund-raising drive to pay for an architectural firm to study our church and develop a master building plan proposal. In April, $7,500 in donations were requested from church members. By Early June the target had been reached and exceeded with a surplus of $1,217. (The surplus will be applied to the building fund.) Thus, God provided the means to study our building needs. Hallelujah!

Where do we go from here?? At the June 14th session meeting the elders approved a resolution to enter into a contract with Schultz Torgerson Architects Ltd. Todd Montgomery was appointed as the agent for the church and signed the contract authorizing the study. The Ad Hoc Committee on Building Needs (about 8 members made up of trustees and elders) will advise the architects on the present physical condition of our church building. The session as a whole will oversee promotion and information sharing with the congregation throughout the study process.

By late August, the architects will have met with the Ad Hoc Committee on Building Needs. They will also have studied our building and will be able to give us an audit as to what condition it is in. In late September and October two meetings will be held with members to obtain ideas and hear concerns. These information gathering meetings will then be used by the architects to come up with a plan for our building.

In late November the architects will present various options and scenarios to the church as to what possible courses of action we might take. At that point Schultz Torgerson Architects Ltd. Will have completed the Master plan.

In December and January, the session and the members will have to decide what, if any, direction the building project should take based on the proposals the architects have developed. Ultimately any actual ground breaking will require funds. A capital campaign will need support and the session and congregation will have to decide to what extent we will use debt to finance the projects. These are serious issues and all members will have to pray about this project and, then, with God’s wisdom, decide what they can contribute.

But first things first! Throughout the next couple of months it is essential that all ideas are put on the table so they can be evaluated and incorporated into a Master Building Plan. So, over the next several months think about what it is that you want in a church building. Discuss your ideas with friends and be prepared to participate in the building study meetings this fall. Your views are important; make them heard!!

FLOOD DAMAGE?

Once again flood waters have brought damage and distress to our region.  Our Presbytery is in the early stages of coordinating a response to the needs that have resulted from these event.  The exact form of that response has not yet been determined.  At present we need information.  If you or some one you know have been impacted by the flood please let Pastor Mark know the particulars or contact the Presbytery Office and give them a description of the need. This will help the Presbytery design a response.
